In 2001 Carter + Burton began offering Interior Design services in addition to our Architectural services to better serve our clients needs. We love working on the more intimate scale of furnishings, textiles, and art and we take great pride in making spaces that are warm, comfortable, functional and creative. We care about quality and craftsmanship and are serious about whether a material is healthy and sustainable.

DESIGN + FLEXIBILITY + BUDGET

Our scope of services is extensive. The client may choose for us to perform any or all of the following services:

PROGRAMMING

•   Identify and evaluate the needs and objectives of the client
•   Assess existing conditions, furnishings, and / or collections
•   Create project timelines and schedules
•   Coordinate with consultants and other specialists
•   Help recognize safety and code requirements
•   Assist with developing a budget for design and installation

 CONCEPTUAL DESIGN

•   Formulate design concepts and preliminary plans for discussion based on programming information from the client

 DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

•   Design recommendations for any or all of the following: space planning, furniture arrangements, millwork, hardware, lighting, communications requirements, fabric, wall treatments, and even home security
•   Develop signage and graphic programs for commercial projects
•   Design furniture and custom rugs
•   Focus on ergonomics in work places
•   Information may be presented in drawings, sketches, perspectives, material boards, and models to name a few
•   Prepare working drawings and specifications for non-load bearing interior construction
•   Collaborate with specialty consultants and our in-house licensed architectural team
•   Help identify qualified vendors
•   Update the budget

 CONTRACT ADMINISTRATION

•   Review shop drawings and samples to see that they coordinate with design concepts
•   Participate in site visits and inspections
•   Procure items such as furnishings and fixtures
•   Monitor delivery schedules
•   Administrate the installation of furniture, fixtures, finishes, and equipment

EVALUATION

•   Review the implementation of projects while they are ongoing and then upon completion as a representative of the client

With our DESIGN ABILITIES, we are not only able to provide you with all of the services listed above, but we also bring to the table our creative abilities. We try to stay up to date with the latest trends in technology. We are also constantly researching new materials, many of which are healthy and environmentally friendly. We have a strong sense of historical understanding and knowledge. You may have needs, hopes, and a sense of what you’d like the end product to be, and we know how to synthesize those ideas creatively.   

FLEXIBILITY. We are a small firm and so we are able to stay flexible with the projects we work on. We can focus on your project no matter what your need is, big or small, a hotel or a corner bakery, an office building or a home office. We are capable of doing both modern design and traditional designs. We are generalists. Also, we can work with you if you are just beginning to think about building a home, in the process of construction, or at completion of your project. Likewise, we may be what you are looking for if you are planning to renovate or add onto an existing structure. 

Your BUDGET is very important to the success of your project.  We will work with you throughout the entire design process in order to work within your particular financial plan. If your budget is primarily available for purchases only, we can even work with you on a consultation basis. Finally, we can develop a master plan to work from as funds become available.
